NEW - Digital Printing on Canvas at Opus

We are very excited to announce our new digital printing on canvas service, available now at Opus Art & Design Media in Downtown Vancouver.

Printing on canvas offers some exciting new ways to make art, from simple projects to printing your art on a large scale canvas. You can even work back into the piece with paints and mediums for further effects. Print photos, digitally created artwork, graphics, scans of your work and more. And because we use pigmented inks instead of dye-based inks, your work will enjoy the benefits of increased archival durability. This is a key point for any artist choosing to reproduce their works of art on canvas.

Our new printing service is designed to work much like our do-it-yourself custom framing service: you make the decisions on how you want your artwork to look, and you decide how you want it printed. For example you can choose the size of print you need, plus whether to have it stretched or un-stretched, with or without borders, and the type of corners you want for stretched pieces. You can also decide your framing options when you order, and then pick everything up at once. One-stop shopping designed to fit your customized needs!

Come and visit us at our downtown Opus to ask us about how it works – we are looking forward to helping you print and pleased to be able to offer this exciting new service to our customers.

Can you tell us what brand/model of printer is used?

What about color profile? Any icm/icc file available for download?

Thanks

Hello and thank you for your questions.
We currently have two Epson printers that we are working with - the Stylus Pro 11880 and the Stylus Pro 7800. Both printers work with pigment based inks which offer our customers the most archival, lighfast, beautiful end result.
At this time, our ICC profiles are not available for you to download, but will be something we can offer in the future.
We have an excellent print staff member named Lindsey and she can help to answer any of your questions. Give her a call at our downtown location at 604.678.5889, option 5 to transfer directly to her extension. She is here Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Hello Lindsey,
I have a few enquiries regarding the "digital printing on canvas".
- When marketing these prints what are they called? Are they Giclee prints or ?)
- When OPUS stretches these prints onto bars, are they stapled or glued?
- Is there a protective coating sprayed on the canvas prints before they are shipped to the artist?

Thanks kindly for your help and look forward to your reply.

Regards, John

Hello John,
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, you are correct in saying Giclee printing when referring to our digital printing service on canvas. By definition Giclee printing is a fine art quality print and we are using professional pigment based inks and 100% cotton archival canvas. As well, we are introducing a variety of fine art, artist grade papers this month that may also be defined as Giclee printing.
When Opus stretches canvas we staple firmly to the back of the stretcher bar and mask off the back for a clean finished product. You also have a choice between three different folded corners depending on your ideal finished edge.
As for protective coatings, Opus does not spray the prints after printing or stretching. We can however recommend brush-on or spray finishes from the product lines we carry. We want to encourage artists to work back into their prints for reproduction purposes and to customize by hand painting or drawing on their digital print.

I hope this response has answered all of your questions. If you have any more feel free to call our downtown location at 604-678-5889 ext 5.
All the best!
