Reclaim Trash as Art
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! What a great message to embody in your art practice. We stumbled upon www.landfillart.org. It is an international effort encompassing 1041 artists who have committed to claiming a piece of rusted metal garbage in order to create fine art.
From old rusted automobile hub caps from the 1930’s through the 1970’s. Each hub cap, after being cleaned and primed, is affectionately called a “metal canvas.” Although most “metal canvases” have been transformed by the artist using oil or acrylic paint, some have been weaved on, glued or screwed or welded to, or made into fine sculpture.
They are hoping to publish a book and to create a traveling show with a select number of pieces.

Gee and I thought it was going to be real reclaimed materials. Somehow things that should be put back in the recycling stream seems not as interesting as more random would be garbage because cannot be turned into a canvas.
